You can indulge in artisanal cheeses paired with freshly baked waffles this month as you pamper that special man in your life. Consider this gourmet spread to create an unforgettable culinary experience for him!
Sweet & Savoury Platter
Ingredients
For the Waffle dough
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tbs sugar
3 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
2 eggs
1 ½ cups milk
4 tbs butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
Cooking spray
Note: this recipe requires a waffle machine
For the Platter
Your choice of cheese
Your choice of fruits
Your choice of nuts
Honey
Peanut butter
Turkey, beef bacon, salami slices
Salty crackers
Directions
- Preheat the waffle machine
2. In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder and salt)
3. In a separate bowl, whisk the wet ingredients (eggs, warm milk, butter, and vanilla extract)
4. Combine together the dry and wet ingredients until blended well
5.Scoop the waffle batter onto the preheated waffle machine and cook until the waffles are golden brown and crisp
6.Cut in half, it is optional for the waffles shape and size; spoon a small amount of the waffle batter onto the waffle machine to have a smaller waffle
7. Set the waffles aside to cool and until the rest of the platter is ready
8. Wash and cut your choice of fruits; strawberry, blueberry, grapes, orange slices
9. Cut your choice of cheese into small shapes; you can choose cheddar cheese, Brie, Emmental, Gouda, flavoured cheese, cream cheese and Halloumi balls
10. For the smoked meat; I like to shape the salami into rosettes
11. Roll the turkey slices into rolls and hold together with a toothpick
12. Layout the cheese, fruits and smoked meat onto your platter adding the waffles on the side with a small jar of honey and peanut butter
13. Decorate with nuts and place salty crackers on the side
