Gooey Chewy Cinnamon Rolls for You, Baba!

Gooey Chewy Cinnamon Rolls for You, Baba!
By Grace Agoubi

This month, the Agoubi family bake their baba’s favourite dessert – cinnamon rolls!
Our young gourmet chef Grace Agoubi (14) invites her brothers George (12) and Lawrence (9) to assist her in creating a crispy, chewy, “just right” dessert for baba.

Ingredients
For the dough
2 ¼ tsp package yeast
½ cup warm water
½ cup milk
¼ cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
1 tsp salt
1 egg
3 ½ cups all purpose flour
For the filling
½ cup melted butter
¾ cup sugar
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
For the glaze
4 tbs butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
3-6 tbsp hot water
Directions
1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside
2. In a large bowl, mix milk, sugar, melted butter, salt and egg
3. Add two cups of flour and mix until smooth. Add yeast mixture
4. Mix in remaining flour until dough is easy to handle
5. Knead dough on lightly floured surface for 5 to ten minutes
6. Place in well-greased bowl, cover and let rise until doubled in size, usually one to one and a half hours
7. When doubled in size, punch down dough
8. Roll out on a floured surface into a 38×23 cm rectangle
9. Spread melted butter all over dough
10. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over buttered dough
11. Roll up dough and pinch edge together to seal. Cut into 12 to 15 slices
12. Coat the bottom of the baking pan with butter
13. Heat oven to 175˚C
14. Place cinnamon roll slices close together in the pan and let rise until dough is doubled, about 45 minutes
15. Bake for about 30 minutes or until nicely browned
16. For the glaze, mix butter, powdered sugar and vanilla
17. Add hot water one tablespoon at a time until the glaze reaches desired consistency
18. Spread over cinnamon rolls
